Zoe Thrall

Co-Chair

Zoe Thrall is a music industry professional with decades of experience in recording studio management.

 

Her career started at the famed Power Station Studios in New York City where she learned both sides of studio operations as both an assistant engineer and in studio management.  There she met producer/musician/actor Little Steven Van Zandt who hired her to work for him as an engineer and as a musician in his band Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul.

 

She later returned to Power Station to become their studio manager and eventually President of the company.  Her career continued on to become manager of Hit Factory Studios in New York City, overseeing 9 studios and 75 employees.

 

In 2005 the Palms Casino Resort courted her to Las Vegas to build and operate the Studio at the Palms where she worked for 15 years.  She is now the Director of Studio Operations of The Hideout Recording Studios in Henderson, Nevada.

 

Recognitions


  • Profiled in the “Studio Business Book” by Jim Mandell which served as a guide to the management and business of professional recording studios.
  • Two-time co-chairperson of the Audio Engineering Society convention in New York City which draws 50,000 people to the Jacob Javits Center every two years.  She is currently the co-chair of the convention for 2021.
  • In her work with Little Steven Van Zandt she served as his representative and liaison with record companies, publishers, producers, recording studios, musicians, attorneys, business managers, the media, agents, movie directors as well as members of congress, politicians, ambassadors and activists in numerous human rights and political arenas 
  • Served as a Trustee and Director of the Solidarity Foundation, a non-profit research and networking foundation in support of indigenous peoples’ rights.
  • Planned and co-organized a fundraiser for Nelson Mandela for hosts Robert DeNiro, Spike Lee, Jonathan Demme and Little Steven at the Tribeca Film Center in NYC.  The event raised $500,000 – the largest single contribution to Mr. Mandela’s tour of the United States.  Was the sole civilian granted Secret Service clearance for this event.
  • Received a commendation from the United Nations for work done in the anti-apartheid movement
  • Performing musician on several albums including five Little Steven albums
  • Touring musician throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan as keyboardist and oboist with Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul.  Touring included being the opening artist for both U2 on the Joshua Tree tour and Peter Gabriel on the So tour.

Brian (Bt) "Gibbs"

Co-Chair

Brian (Bt) “Gibbs” is co-owner & principal at Skyline Entertainment & Publishing (Tool Shed Studios) in Silicon Valley. With 30+ record credits in 2020, Gibbs uses his B.M. from Berklee College of Music (Jazz Composition) as a record producer, mixing engineer & immersive mixing engineer. He has worked on many records for Bay Area artists including Los Tigres del Norte’s “Realidades” (2015 GRAMMY Award for Best Regional Mexican Album, including Tejano).

Gibbs is also a 10yr+ Recording Academy voting member on the Board of Governors for the San Francisco chapter, serving as the Chair for the SF Chapter Producers & Engineers Wing. In action for advocacy on behalf of creators, Gibbs is also a 3-year District Advocacy Captain (CA-19). In helping to develop the next generation of creators, Gibbs regularly serves as a Grammy U mentor, as well as, alumni mentor for his alma mater Berklee College of Music..

For the Audio Engineering Society, Gibbs served as 2020 San Francisco Section Chair, AES Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship Task Force and is a current Co-Chair for the AES 151st Convention (Fall 2021).

In addition to presenting at multiple AES conferences on immersive mixing techniques, he has also presented multiple times at Music Expo (SF & Boston) Berklee College of Music, Cal State University campuses, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Webster University and other audio engineering educational institutions. He is also a current SMPTE member in the San Francisco section.

One of Gibbs’ primary focus is on diversity & inclusion across all disciplines and genres of music creation, both behind the microphone and behind the record.
